The latest from the forums
Since the last newswire, we have had the second tax forum of the year. At this, we had several outside presentations looking at in-depth research and development claims and investments in the film industry, amongst other things.
All the presentations were well-received and I know there has been some follow-up in respect of research and development, leading to new client opportunities.
We also had an interesting presentation from Verstegen, when Kees Euser and his colleague Stoop presented on tax planning opportunities in the Netherlands. It was interesting to hear that their corporate structure is much like ours, but with some real opportunities for effective tax planning, particularly when dividends or royalty payments can be routed via the Netherlands.
As ever with the tax forum, there was lively debate and discussion, not only about the presentations but also with regard to cases that firms are involved in.
The second Managing Partners Forum focused on inter-firm comparison. Chris Downing of Milsted Langdon joined the meeting as he had reformatted the report to give more trend analysis over the past five years, making it more valuable.
Not only did this lead to lots of discussion of the data itself, but also the service Chris is providing to Milsted Langdon clients in terms of presenting management information.
This has lead to Chris having meetings with many of the MGI firms in our region, so that he can share his skills with other firms.
