MGI Conference Heralded a Huge Success

More than 90 accountants from across the continent gathered in Vienna recently when they attended the 2007 MGI European annual conference.

MGI is an international association of accountancy firms across 74 countries.  Hosted by MGI’s Vienna representative Steirer Mika & Comp, the event took place at the Radisson SAS Palais Hotel.

The two day conference featured a host of key industry speakers who tackled the pressing issues relating to the accountancy world today.  Speakers included Professor Dr Karl Aigingera, an economics professor and fellow of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research who expertly analysed the differences in economy’s performance between the USA and Europe.  Day two featured presentations by Dr Erhard Busek, former Austrian Vice Chancellor and Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, on the strategic importance of Austria for trade between the eastern and western European countries.  Other speakers included Alan Hodgart who discussed business trends based on surveys carried out in Australia and the UK. 

MGI Chairman, Patrick Riley, commented: “In addition to technical financial topics, we also took the time to present our members with MGI’s rebranding exercise and strategic development plans which will see our member numbers and market share increase over the next 12 months.

“The conference was hugely successful not only due to the quality of the presentations and debate but also because members were given the opportunity to network with other accountants from around the world.”

MGI member firms will next meet at the International conference being held from 24 to 26 October in Amsterdam, followed by the UK conference from 22 to 24 November.
