UK Accountants Plan for Future at Madrid Conference
UK and Ireland members of global accountancy association MGI have been helping to shape the way forward for the organisation at an international conference in Spain.
MGI holds a European conference each year, which brings together about 100 representatives from the organisation’s member firms across Europe and the rest of the world.
A highlight of the conference, which took place in Madrid from 11-13 June and was hosted by Spanish accountancy firm MGI Audicon and Partners, was an address by Clive Miéville, MGI’s recently appointed first executive director, whose role includes an emphasis on adding further value to MGI membership and attracting new European firms to the organisation. Recent new recruits HK Finance & Accounting, from Poland, and Norwegian firm MGI Revisjon Asker DA also gave presentations.
The key focus of the conference was an extended session on the way forward for the organisation in Europe. MGI UK and Ireland chief executive officer Paul Winder said: “What came out of our discussions was fruitful but there are inevitable challenges in bringing together firms across such a wide area.
“That is why events like this are vital in forging links between member firms. In Clive, we also have an inspiring central figure and his appointment is a real statement of intent by MGI for the future.”
Alan Thornton, a partner at Bradford accountants MGI Watson Buckle, said: “The main core of the conference remains networking and there is a distinct feeling that there is much cross-border work to be had if we just keep talking to each other – which we certainly intend to do.”
MGI, which was founded in 1947, has more than 260 offices in over 77 countries which share knowledge and expertise in worldwide business practice and international tax solutions, building collaborative relationships to their own and their clients’ benefit.
