Legal profession in the spotlight
October saw our first gathering of partners and managers who act for clients in the legal profession. We had a presentation from the managing partner of a legal firm in East London, which was not a client of any MGI firm, on what they wanted from their accountants.
They also spoke about how they saw the future of their profession and how they would view SAR work, which to them was a useful point of contact to improve business practices rather than an audit which only told them what they already knew.
Noel Kelleway from Rickard Keen gave us a really useful overview of a presentation he recently gave to a group of solicitors on better business practices, and we also looked at what marketing materials our member firms currently had which were aimed at legal firms, and how successful they had been. There was quite a lot of discussion about forensic accounting and where firms which already operated in this area got their work from.
We also had a brief presentation from Bill Johnston from Seymour Taylor on the Hampton Group, of which his firm has recently become a member, and the opportunities in Hampton Chambers for solicitors to outsource their back office.
