MGI members declare conference ‘THE BEST YET’
MGI, the worldwide association of accountancy firms, is celebrating the success of its latest UK and Ireland conference with a record number of delegates getting together to share insights into how businesses can harness the latest technology.
Under the title ‘The Future’s Bright – The Future’s Already Here’, the conference included a keynote speech from scientist, inventor and TV and radio personality Professor Heinz Wolff, on the future of technology within professional firms and the likely impact on working practices and delivery of services to clients.
Other topics up for discussion included technology ‘must-haves’, online filing, marketing and disaster recovery, while the event also provided an opportunity for member firms to network and share ideas.
Around 80 delegates attended, with representatives from all of MGI’s member firms in the UK and Ireland – including new members Milsted Langdon and Harrison, Beale and Owen – as well as many from around the world.
Among those attending from abroad was MGI’s new International Executive Director Thierry Delvaux, in one of his first engagements in his new role.
He said: “An association using such meetings to feel the pulse of its members in a very open and transparent way can only be on the right tracks, because it makes sure that the needs of its members are not only taken into consideration but also handled in a very fair way.
“I am delighted to be able to contribute to MGI and will do my best to bring added value to an association of professionals.”
Paul Winder, chief executive officer of MGI UK and Ireland, added: “From my point of view, it was great to see all of the UK and Ireland firms so well represented, and for the new members to be so openly welcomed by everybody.
“The attendance of so many international delegates gave a new dimension to the conference, which is something I will be building on for the 2010 event.”
