Institute invites MGI member join advisory team

The managing director of MGI UK and Ireland’s newest member firm has taken on a new role as one of a team of advisors working with a high profile research organisation.

Gary Killmister of CI Accountancy Limited has been invited to join a new advisory panel to Newcastle University’s Institute of Ageing and Health, where he will be working alongside advisors from other firms including investment managers Brewin Dolphin and leading Northern commercial law practices Ward Hadaway and Dickinson Dees.

Gary was invited to join the advisory panel, which is due to hold its first meeting within the next month, after being introduced to representatives of the institute by a new CI Accountancy client who specialise in occupational health. The panel will help to provide specialist advice to support the institute in its development and expansion.
The Institute recently made headlines with research published in May that predicted that around 630,000 extra care home places would be required between now and 2030 to cope with the demands of an increasingly older population. Its projects also include working with businesses and other organisations on a commercial basis to translate its research into products and services.

The advisory panel appointment complements a focus by Gary and fellow director Les Hare to develop a specialism in tax advice and planning for the over-50s. They are working closely with other compatible businesses providing services to the age group, including care homes and occupational health. Work to raise the firm’s profile in this field has included an article in CI Accountancy’s local paper, the Hexham Courant, on tax planning for retirement and beyond, published in May.
